DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – The Delaware Valley women's volleyball team fell in three-straight to the Albright Lions before facing the Lycoming Warriors in a five-set thriller ultimately dropping the second match 2-3.
MATCH ONE VS. ALBRIGHT (0-3)
The Aggies remained in chase from the start, tying the Lions three times through the first five points apiece. The Lions used an 8-2 run to create a six-point advantage, 13-8. The Aggies came within two points twice, but another 8-2 run for the Lions ended the set, 25-17.
Behind by seven, an error for the Lions kicked off a 4-0 run for the Aggies to help them close the gap to just three, 17-14, in the second set. Albright capitalized on an error by DelVal starting their own 5-0 run to take an eight-point edge, 22-14.
Victoria Tucker shifted momentum in favor of the Aggies with the kill to start the 7-1 run closing the gap to just two, 23-21. Albright put up the final two points to win the set 25-21.
Albright offense took control from the start of the third set with a 10-2 run. The Aggies offense worked to bring the deficit five, 11-6, thanks to back-to-back kills from Schneider. The Lions held the Aggies to just 11 more points in the set for the 25-17 victory.
MATCH TWO VS. LYCOMING (2-3)
A service ace from Schneider put DelVal in its first lead of the first set, 5-4. The teams traded points knotting the score at 7-7 before a 15-14 run that kept Lycoming in the lead by just a single point, 22-21. A kill from
Cassandra Gloster evened the score at 22-22 and started another back-and-forth affair with the teams tying it at 27-27. Kills from Scheider and Kane ended the set in favor of the Aggies, 29-27.
Trailing by four, kills from
Victoria Tucker and
Madison Alexander helped the Aggies to even the score, 8-8, but the Warriors would hold DelVal to just seven more points while putting up 17 of their own to secure the second set 25-15.
DelVal held a four-point advantage over Lycoming before the momentum shifted in favor of the Warriors with a 14-7 run to take a three-point lead, 19-16. The Aggies offense threw the Warriors off their game forcing four consecutive errors for the lead change, 20-19. The teams evened the score three more times before a 3-1 run and a kill from Alexnader put the Aggies in the win column, 25-23.
The teams tied the score six times with the Aggies unable to gain a larger lead than three before giving up four points to the Warriors falling behind 13-10. A kill from
Emma Helverson started a huge 9-2 run for the Aggies led by Kane with three kills to put DelVal back on top, 19-15 and force a Lycoming timeout. The regrouping worked out in favor of the Warriors with a 10-2 run to win the set, 25-23.
Alexander earned the kill to even the score 4-4, but a 9-1 run from Lycoming created an eight-point advantage, 13-5. DelVal used a 4-0 spurt to close the gap, 13-9, but the Warriors knocked down the final two points for the 15-9 victory.
