Football Falls to Stevenson 21-20, Ending Conference Win Streak

OWINGS MILLS, Md. – Delaware Valley football fell to Stevenson 21-20 on Saturday, ending a remarkable 54-game conference win streak.

The Aggies' defense forced the Mustangs into a three-and-out, regaining possession at their own eight-yard line. The drive began with a 40-yard pass to Jasiah Davis, followed by an eight-yard completion to Dillion Shamanow and a 12-yard rush by Louie Barrios IV, setting up DelVal's first downs. Barrios IV then connected with Nahsir Morgan in the end zone for a 36-yard touchdown. Brendan Hazell nailed the extra point, putting DelVal ahead 7-0.

Over the next 7:55, Stevenson orchestrated a 15-play, 77-yard drive to tie the game, culminating in a two-yard push up the middle by Jordan Adams.

As the second quarter began, a false start penalty set back the Aggies' next drive. However, a pass over the middle to Luan Avdijaj provided DelVal with a fresh set of downs. Although Jack Fallon was stuffed for a five-yard loss, Barrios IV responded with a 53-yard touchdown pass down the right sideline to Alvaro Lora, regaining the lead. With two minutes left in the half, the Mustangs mounted a drive to equalize, featuring an 18-yard rush by Seth Parker and a 21-yard touchdown reception by Nicholas Griffin.

The third quarter went scoreless, but Stevenson found themselves on the DelVal eight-yard line after an 11-play drive. On third down, first-year Jovan Tyrell intercepted Adams in the end zone, keeping the game tied at 14. The Aggies were forced to punt, but a roughing-the-kicker penalty on the Mustangs kept the offense on the field. Unfortunately, a series of penalties—including holding, ineligible man downfield, delay of game, and illegal forward pass—backed up the DelVal offense, forcing another punt. A short 24-yard kick set Stevenson up at the DelVal 35-yard line. On third and seven, Parker broke free for a 16-yard touchdown rush up the middle, giving Stevenson a 21-14 lead with 7:19 remaining.

A rush by Fallon and a pass to Alvaro set up a first down at the Stevenson 48. Rob McConnell took the snap and connected with Morgan for a 50-yard touchdown pass, but the extra point was blocked, leaving the Aggies trailing by one. On the following Stevenson drive, Tyrell made his second interception of the game on the Stevenson 42. After an incompletion to Morgan, Barrios' pass was tipped in the air and caught by Stevenson's Mekhi Harvey. A personal foul on DelVal gave the Mustangs a first down, allowing them to run out the clock.

The Aggies (2-1, 1-1 MAC) return home next weekend to take on Misericordia University at 1:00 p.m. on Robert A. Lipinski Field at James Work Memorial Stadium.
