DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – The Delaware Valley field hockey team took an early 2-0 lead over the Sewanee Tigers in the first half, but conceded three consecutive goals to drop the contest, 3-2.
Trailing in shots 5-2, the Aggies earned a penalty corner to put themselves in prime scoring position.
Sydney Keagle took to the goal line for the insert up to
Kenzie Boyd up top. Boyd dumped it left for
Ashley Birmingham with a rocket of a shot right into the back of the cage to put the Aggies up 1-0.
Another corner just a minute later saw Keagle sending the ball back up to Boyd for the shot saved.
Kaylee Hartung waited nearby to collect the loose ball for another attempt saved by the Tigers goalie. The Aggies persevered with Keagle gathering the loose ball for the goal to extend the lead, 2-0.
Sewanee picked up the offense in the second half, cutting the deficit to one following a penalty corner in the 37
th minute. Just five minutes later, the Tigers brought the ball right into the circle for the shot to even the score, 2-2.
The Aggies fought to break the tie with Hartung getting off two solid shots at the cage sending one wide and one right into the pads of the goalie. The Tigers broke the stalemate in the 43
rd minute to take a 3-2 advantage. With time winding down,
Alex Graffius had a breakaway drawing the goalie out from the cage but dropped the one-on-one battle to leave the final score in favor of the Tigers.
