Dispoto Scores in 2-1 Loss to Widener

DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – An early lead slipped away from the Delaware Valley women's soccer team in a 2-1 loss to Widener University on Wednesday evening.

The Pride controlled possession for much of the first ten minutes but managed only one shot. In the 13th minute, Gillian Baker connected with a breaking Sydney Dispoto, who scored her second goal of the season with a shot over the keeper—DelVal's first attempt of the match. Later, Alice Kaufman had another opportunity in the 22nd minute, but the ball slipped away from her. Goalkeeper Viola Anderson faced five shots in the first half, including a leaping save against Isabella Losada with 8:30 remaining. In the 42nd minute, Widener's Madison Forte fouled Jess Williamson and was given the games only yellow card.

After a timeout for an injured player, the Pride had an early chance but sent the shot over the net. Alyssa Carmen equalized for Widener, chipping the ball over Anderson after receiving an assist from Tatum Stielow in the right corner. Erin Shuey attempted a header that went wide before blocking two consecutive shots from Widener. Tianna Carr received a pass in front of the net but fired high, as the Pride increased their shot advantage to 19-4. Anderson made a diving save, but Widener maintained the pressure, with Tatina Carr scoring from close range with 15 minutes remaining.

Following the loss, Delaware Valley fell to 1-5 on the season, while the Pride improved to 3-3. The Aggies will be back in action on Saturday, Sept. 21, at Susquehanna University.
