DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – Delaware Valley women's soccer matched Lycoming in shots with eight but was bested on the scoreboard falling 2-0.
The game started quickly for the Warriors as Aubrey Williamson scored just seven minutes in, capitalizing on Lycoming's second shot of the match.
Viola Anderson made a save on the first attempt. Anderson continued to be busy, making additional saves in the 13th and 18th minutes to keep the Aggies in the game.
Jess Williamson had the first shot for Delaware Valley, but it sailed over the net.
Alice Kaufman and
Marissa Rogers also tested Lycoming's goalkeeper Riley Block, who made crucial saves.
Caitlin Martinez received a yellow card at 35:42, and Rogers, who led the Aggies with three shots on goal, had another attempt before halftime but was unable to score.
Anderson made another key save to start the second half. Lycoming's Claudia Green was shown a yellow card and then substituted out. In the 72nd minute, both
Sydney Dispoto and
Jess Williamson had their shots saved by Block, who tallied eight saves during her 66 minutes on the field. Lycoming extended their lead to 2-0 at 76:08, and
Gillian Baker received a yellow card in the 80th minute.
Erin Shuey had the final opportunity for Delaware Valley but could not find the back of the net.
DelVal will look ahead to bounce back against Widener University on Wednesday, Sept. 18 at Robert A Lipinksi Field.
