Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Bailey Smith, Sports Information Intern

Late Offense Not Enough for Loss at Cairn

Langhorne PA – The Delaware Valley University men's soccer team would fall early to a 3-0 lead, ultimately breaking their four-game win streak.

In the opening ten minutes, both the Aggies and the Highlanders battled fiercely for control of the game. Aggies' goalkeeper Nick Becker made an early save off a shot by Highlander Jesse Brittain. However, Brittain quickly found another opportunity and this time successfully drove the ball into the net, putting the Highlanders ahead 1-0 in the first 15 minutes. Just two minutes after the first goal, Aggie Josh Difillipo received the game's first yellow card. This set up a penalty kick for Highlander Moses Beer, who converted the opportunity, increasing the score to 2-0 in favor of the Highlanders. Ten minutes later, Cairn increased their lead to 3-0 with a goal from Emanuel Lazor, with an assist from Geon Smallwood. The Highlanders would out shoot the Aggies 6-0 going into the second half.

One minute into the second half, Danny Henson attempted to ignite the Aggies' offense, but his shot went wide right of the net. Soon after, Nick Becker recorded his second save of the night, deflecting a well-placed shot from Highlander Moses Beer. The Highlanders maintained pressure with four more shots before the Aggies finally regained possession. Pepijn Middel had a chance to get the Aggies on the scoreboard, but his shot also missed to the right. Roy Hevener followed up with an opportunity of his own, but a Highlander defender blocked his attempt. Despite out shooting the Highlanders 10-8, the Aggies couldn't capitalize on their opportunities and ultimately fell 3-0.

The Aggies next game will be Friday, September 13th where they will face the Neumann Knights for their home opener.
