Volleyball Knocks Down Centenary in Home Opener

DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – The Delaware Valley women's volleyball team welcomed Centenary to James Work Gymnasium for the 2024 home opener on Tuesday night. The Aggies went on to take down the Cyclones in three-straight sets winning by at least a margin of victory of 10 in each set.

Service aces from Samantha Wilton and Emma Helverson joined a pair of kills by Grace Kane and Gretta Schneider to put the Aggies in an early 4-1 lead in the first set. The Cyclones brought the deficit to two twice before committing three-straight errors to push the Aggies ahead by five, 10-5. DelVal committed an error of its own to start Centenary on a 6-0 comeback run to take a single-point lead, 11-10. The Aggies mounted a huge 12-point comeback with four kills from Helverson and two each from both Schneider and Kane to secure the 25-13 win.

Schneider set the tone in set two with two kills and a service ace to propel the Aggies to a 4-2 lead to start. The Cyclones cut the deficit to just one before giving up eight unanswered points to the Aggies with the run spearheaded by a pair of kills from Kai Logan. DelVal continued to maintain its advantage giving up just 13 points, but maintained small 2-0 runs to keep the edge and take the set 25-15.

The duo of Helverson and Kane kicked off the final set earning four of the first five points to put the Aggies in a 5-1 lead. The Cyclones remained in chase trailing by at least four over the next rallies until a huge 8-0 run from DelVal extended the deficit to double-digits, 18-6. The Aggies let up two points but finished things off with a huge 7-1 spurt for the 25-9 victory.

Helverson and Schneider led the offense with eight kills apiece followed closely by Kane with six. Samantha Wilton led the defensive efforts with a team high 12 digs while Grace Wilson contributed 10. Wilton also tallied a team high three services aces.
