Aggies Offense Breakthrough in Second Half Seals 1-0 Win

Hackettstown, N.J. - The Delaware Valley men's soccer team secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory with a decisive goal by Amos Debah in the second half.

After an eight-minute back-and-forth possession battle, the Aggies' offense tried to break through as sophomore Everett Kurtz fired a quick shot, but Cyclones goalkeeper Kevin Velasquez Mejia made a key save. Following a few throw-ins from both sides, Centenary's Brandon Morales found space and launched a shot that sailed over the goal. Freshman Kervening Thelistin responded with a shot of his own, but Velasquez Mejia was again up to the task. A subsequent foul on Centenary's Thomas Edge gave the Aggies a penalty kick opportunity. Thelisten took the shot, but Velasquez Mejia made a dramatic dive to the left, keeping the game scoreless. With both teams recording three shots on goal by halftime, the score remained 0-0.

In the second half, freshmen Josh Difillipo and Ernort George II received yellow cards, with Difillipo being cautioned early on and George booked around the 23rd minute. The Cyclones controlled the game for the first 25 minutes, registering three shots on goal. While the first two attempts sailed high, Matt Paterno's third shot was narrowly saved by freshman goalkeeper Aiden Lane. Centenary's Sean Quinones received a yellow card shortly after, and Lane made another crucial save against Kevin Lopez's attempt. At the 26th-minute mark, the Aggies broke the deadlock. Sophomore Debah scored the game's only goal, assisted by sophomore Kam Geiger on a free kick. The Aggies continued to control possession, ultimately outshooting the Cyclones 10-9 and landing five shots on goal.

With this victory, the Aggies improve to 2-0 in their road series. Their next game is scheduled for Saturday, September 7th, at 1 p.m. against the Penn State Berks Lions.
