Doylestown, Pa. – Delaware Valley women's soccer was shut out 4-0 in the 2024 season opener against Ursinus College on Friday afternoon.
Jess Williamson fired an open opportunity wide just three minutes into the afternoon and the Bears took control. Senior keeper
Viola Anderson made three consecutive saves including two one one-on-one chances. The Bear's fifth shot found the back of the net off the foot of Tehya Harvey going bar-down in the 12
th minute. Ursinus netted two more goals just one minute apart, the second off of a jumping Anderson taking the score to 3-0. At 41:16 Kaleigh Evans scored her second of the game dribbling around an Aggie defender giving the Bears a four-goal advantage going into the break.
Halfway through the second Williamson fired another shot wide. Later, with ten to go
Meztly Garcia fired a shot wide and
Marissa Rogers tested Alyssa Marraffino who entered in goal for the Bears for the entire second half. The Aggies were out-shot 10-3 in the half but their final scoring chance came in the form of a Williamson breakaway, but the ball jumped too far again and was hauled in by the keeper. The Bears threatened twice with under a minute to go, but the post and Anderson stopped the chances.
Anderson made 12 stops and played all 90 minutes for DelVal, suffering the loss. Ursinus keepers Mandy Carideo and Marrafinno split time making one save a piece, Carideo earning the victory.
Following the loss, the Aggies fell to 0-1-0 overall and the Bears improved to 1-0-0. The Aggies return to action on Wednesday, September 4
th visiting the Mustangs of Stevenson University at 7:00 p.m.
