Men's Soccer Hold Strong for 2-1 Victory in Season Opener at Immaculata

Immaculata, Pa. - The Delaware Valley University men's soccer team kicked off their season with a 2-1 victory, handing the Mighty Macs of Immaculata their first loss of the year.

Tensions ran high just 10 minutes into the first half, with both teams receiving yellow cards. Immaculata's senior Reed Lindsay and DelVal freshman Pepijn Middel were booked within minutes of each other, setting the stage for a physical game. Despite the rough start, the Aggies controlled the first half, outshooting the Mighty Macs 2-0. Freshman Ernort George II nearly broke the deadlock, but his shot was saved by Immaculata's senior goalkeeper Ryan Straub. Moments later, sophomore Prince Mugisha scored with an assist from sophomore Roy Hevener. By halftime, DelVal led 1-0, with the Mighty Macs yet to register a shot on goal.

Immaculata came out determined in the second half, with junior Jaden Jones testing the Aggies' defense early on. Although DelVal freshman goalkeeper Aiden Lane made the save, the Mighty Macs eventually scored their first goal. Immaculata's senior Dylan Walter had two more shots that narrowly missed. The Aggies quickly responded, with sophomore Roy Hevener scoring again, assisted by senior Andrew Grunwald. Despite being outshot 5-2 in the second half, DelVal's defense held strong, conceding only one goal and securing their first victory of the season.

With this win, the Aggies improve to 1-0 and look ahead as they continue their road swing to begin the 2024 campaign. Their next match is Sunday, September 1st at 2:00 p.m. against the Centenary University Cyclones.
