Women’s Lacrosse Drops Contest to DeSales

DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – The Delaware Valley women's lacrosse team hosted DeSales on Saturday afternoon dropping the contest 21-4 to fall to 1-1 in MAC Freedom play and 5-6 overall.

The Bulldogs wasted no time netting the first goal of the game 15 seconds in. Ashley Birmingham won the draw off the goal and brought the ball down into DeSales' defensive zone to even the score, 1-1. Scoring slowed over the next four minutes, but the Bulldogs offense ended the drought with an eight-goal run over a 10-minute period to take a 9-1 lead. With 22 seconds left in the first quarter, Viola Anderson forced the turnover to put the Aggies back on offense. Samantha Charles possessed the ball in the offensive zone finding the stick of Susan Rawding for the goal to end the frame and cut the deficit to seven, 9-2.

A free-position attempt and possession off the draw helped the Bulldogs to a 2-0 run to start the second and put DelVal behind by nine, 11-2. A yellow card put the Aggies in a man-up advantage giving Birmingham the opportunity to score and cut the deficit to eight, 11-3. DeSales put up three more goals in the frame to take a 14-3 advantage into the half.

Anna Kimbel and Birmingham got good looks at the goal to start the third quarter and shift the momentum in favor of the Aggies. After a scoreless seven minutes Kimbel picked up the loose ball to find the net of Rawding who got passed the goalie to score and bring the deficit down to 10, 14-4. The momentum quickly changed back in the direction of the Bulldogs whose offense picked up seven more goals over the remainder of the game for the 21-4 win.

Birmingham led the stat lines for the Aggies with seven shots, seven ground balls and four draw controls. Emily Drake played all 60 minutes in the net and recorded 12 saves to reach over 100 saves on the season.

The Aggies return to action on Wednesday, Apr. 10 when they travel to Misericordia for a 7 p.m. matchup.
