DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – The Delaware Valley baseball team trailed by two runs at the bottom of the seventh inning with
Nathan Fisher stepping up to the plate for the two-run homerun to start the Aggies on a seven-run scoring stretch across the remainder of the inning, eventually leading to the 7-5 victory over Lebanon Valley at Frank Wolfgang Field.
Lebanon Valley held the Aggies scoreless through the first six innings while putting up a single run in the second and one in the fifth to take an early 2-0 lead. DelVal starting pitcher Connor Ebenshade gave up just six runs through the first six and recorded four strikeouts.
Trailing by two,
Evan Scally stepped up to the plate to kick off the bottom of the seventh singling up the middle to reach first base.
Andrew Schneider followed up fouling out to the third basemen for one out on the board with Fisher at bat. Fisher ripped the shot out over the fence to bring Scally home and tie the score, 2-2.
DelVal's scoring streak was far from over as both
Reese Hackett and
Liam Martin singled to put men on first and second with leading hitter
Hank Bielen up to bat. Bielen drew the walk to load the bases leading the Flying Dutchmen to make a pitching change with designated hitter
Jonathan Drews on deck. Drews singled to right field to bring Hackett home and place Martin in position to follow-up with a run on a wild pitch to put the Aggies head 4-2 with both Drews and Bielen on base.
With just one out,
Gavin Migliori stepped up to the plate ripping a triple to left center field bringing home both Bielen and Drews for the 6-2 lead and prompting yet another pitching change by the Flying Dutchmen.
James Miskanic got hit with the pitch to land on first and went on to steal second resulting in a balk by pitcher Ryan Pickel to advance Migliori home for the 7-2 lead. Pickle went on to strike out both Scally and Schneider to end the inning.
Ebenshade and the Aggies defense went to work in the top of the eighth recording two fly outs and a strike out while leaving one man stranded to move into the bottom of the eighth with Fisher up in the lineup. Fisher flied out to right field, but both Hackett and Martin singled to get on base. Bielen hit the sacrifice fly to put Hackett in scoring position, but Pickle struck out Drews to move onto the final inning.
Ebenshade let two men on base to start the top of the ninth prompting a pitching change for the Aggies putting
Reuben Costin on the mound. With bases loaded and just one out, a wild pitch put a run on the board for the Flying Dutchmen to start a three-run streak to cut the deficit to just two runs, 7-5, with men on second and first. Schneider caught the popped-up foul ball to record the second out of the inning, followed Migliori with the fly ball out to left field to end the game and hand the Aggies the win.
The win marks Ebenshade's first of the season while Costin recorded his first save of the season. Migliori and Fisher led the Aggies with two RBI's apiece while seven different Aggies recorded runs in the game.
