Aggies Fall to LVC on Senior Day

DOYLESTOWN, Pa. -  The Delaware Valley women's lacrosse team celebrated seniors Kyra McKeegan, Samantha McCurry, Susan Rawding, Ashley Birmingham and Alyssa Rudd before taking on the Lebanon Valley Flying Dutchmen in a MAC Freedom Conference afternoon showdown. DelVal fell behind early to LVC eventually dropping the contest 20-7.

The Flying Dutchmen took an early four-goal lead through the first 11 minutes of the first quarter. Just under the four-minute mark Anna Kimbel gained possession behind the net and worked her way around through the Flying Dutchmen defense to rip the shot right out front of the net to put the Aggies on the board, 4-1.

LVC went on to put up eight more goals through the rest of the first quarter and the start of the second to gain an 11-point lead on DelVal. Scoring picked up for the Aggies in the second frame with Birmingham winning the draw control to put the Aggies on offense. McKeegan gained possession behind the net working it out to the left side to find Rawding at the Crease for the goal to cut the deficit to 10, 12-2.

Three minutes later a lost ball by LVC was collected in the defensive zone by Samantha Charles who ran it up field for the clear and eventually found the back of the net to bring the deficit down to single-digits, 12-3. The Aggies scoring run continued with 0:14 seconds left in the half when McKeegan converted the free position shot to put DelVal behind by eight, 12-4. The Flying Dutchmen hit a goal in the final seconds of frame to take a 13-4 lead into the second half.

Kimbel and Rawding kept the scoring going for DelVal in the third frame. With 7:38 on the clock, Kimbel gained possession on the right side and brought it to the back of the net where she waited patiently for the rest of the offense to draw off the defenders. With a small opening, Kimbel cut to the front of the net from the left side and dumped the ball right over top of the keeper for her second goal of the game.

The duo of McKeegan and Rawding followed up four minutes later when a free position attempt for LVC was blocked by Birmingham and collected by Rudd. Rudd ran downfield for the clear and passed the ball off to McKeegan in the offensive zone. With a quick move around the lone defender, McKeegan dumped the ball off to Rawding for her second goal of the game keeping the Aggies in a single-digit deficit, 15-6.

The Flying Dutchmen responded with a five-goal run through the 4:03 mark of the fourth quarter. DelVal managed the final goal of the game with a man-up advantage and 1:55 left on the clock. McKeegan passed the ball from the right side to Kimbel who sent the ball above the keeper's head yet again for her third goal of the game.

Kimbel led the scoring for the Aggies with three goals while McKeegan led in assists with three. Charles scooped up a team-high four ground balls and Birmingham recorded a team-high six draw controls. Emily Drake played all 60 minutes in the net recording 11 saves on 31 shots faced.

DelVal hits the road next to take on Arcadia on Wednesday, Apr. 17 at 4 p.m.
