DelVal Baseball Defeats Penn State Behrend In Final Game Of Spring Break Tournament

VERO BEACH, FL- Delaware Valley baseball took the field one last time this weekend as their spring break trip would come to an end. After a loss to Wilkes earlier on in the day, the Aggies would then face off against Penn State Behrend.

Junior Patrick Flynn would get the starting pitching nod on the mound for Delaware Valley.

Penn State Behrend would start off the scoring with two quick RBI singles to take a 2-0 lead.

Delaware Valley would get two runners on in the bottom half of the second inning but were not able to drive any runs across as the score would remain 2-0.

In the bottom of the 3rd, senior Evan Scalley would cut the deficit 2-1 scoring in sophomore Gavin Migliori on an RBI single.

Penn State Behrend would extend their lead to 3-1 in the bottom of the 4th on a wild pitch. Flynn would then go on to retire the next two batters including notching a strikeout.

The Aggies would respond as graduate student Hank Beilenhitt an RBI single with two outs to make it a 3-2 ballgame.

Patrick Flynn would record a one-two-three inning in the top of the 5th inning including another adding another strikeout to his total.

Delaware Valley would load the bases in the bottom of the 5th following an Evan Scally walk, a single from junior Andrew Schneider, and a hit by a pitch from senior Nick Koch. The Aggies would tie up the game with a sacrifice fly from junior James Miskanic

In the top of the 6th, the Aggies would throw junior John Slover on the mound. Slover would allow zero unearned runs through two innings of work. However, Penn State Behrend would capitalize on Delaware Valley defensive mistakes and would tie up the game 4-4.

In the top of the 8th, sophomore Connor Esbenshade would enter the game on the mound for Delaware Valley. Esbenshade would throw a one-two-three inning to give the Aggies a chance to take the lead in the bottom half of the inning.

Despite a runner on second with only one out, the Aggies offense was not able to score any runs, and the score remained tied going into the 9th.

Delaware Valley would throw graduate student Dalton Moore in the 9th inning. Moore would escape the 9th with no runs and only one allowed hit.

The only way the Aggies could win this game would be through walk-off fashion… and they did just that.

The bottom of the 9th started with a single from junior Reese Hackett. The sophomore would then advance to second base on a wild pitch. With two outs, pinch hitter Nate Fischer would hit an infield single and advance Hackett to third to keep the Aggie's chances alive in the inning. After battling back from an 0-2 count, James Miskanic would hit a walk-off RBI single to give the Aggies a 5-4 win.

The Aggies will go back to Doylestown and they will play against Wilson on Wednesday, March 13th at home.
