WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The Delaware Valley women's lacrosse team took a four-goal lead in the first quarter on the road over the King's Monarchs and never looked back winning the game 14-3. The Aggies mark their first conference win of the season and snap a three-game skid with the victory.
A free position attempt for the Aggies two minutes into the game put Krya McKeegan in possession of the ball firing off the shot into the back of the net to put DelVal ahead 1-0 early. After a failed clear from King's five minutes later, McKeegan regained possession finding
Susan Rawding for the goal for a 2-0 edge. The Monarchs responded to cut the deficit to one, 2-1, but the Aggies offense pushed forward with Ashley Brimingham and
Samantha Charles teaming up with Rawding for three more goal to put DelVal on top 5-1 to end the first quarter.
The second quarter saw a scoreless seven minutes before a cleared ball from the Aggies found itself in the stick of Rawding firing in the back of the net for her second consecutive goal of the game putting DelVal ahead 6-1. Three minutes passed before Birmingham found a hot Rawding for a third consecutive goal for the 7-1 lead. Birmingham rounded out the frame with two goals of her own to put the Aggies head by eight, but a foul on the Aggies put the King's in a position to cut the deficit down to seven heading into the half, 9-2.
DelVal's offense continued to dominate in the third frame. Birmingham started off the scoring scooping up the ground ball to find McKeegan to extend the Aggies' lead back to eight, 10-2. Two minutes later, the Aggies offense put goalkeeper Sidney Bush to the test with three-straight shots
Anna Kimbel scooped off the loose ball off the save dumping it off to McKeegan for her second-straight goal to put DelVal ahead 11-2. Rawding went on to net her fifth goal of the game to put the Aggies ahead by double-digits, 10-2. A yellow card on
Viola Anderson allowed King's to score on the man-up advantage with 2:31 to play, but Charles found the back of the net in the final 20 seconds of the frame to maintain the Aggies' 10-goal lead, 13-3.
Scoring slowed in the final frame with the Aggies being the last to get on the board. Eight minutes into the frame, Anderson ripped a shot wide, scooped up by McKeegan who took it to the net for the Aggies' final goal of the game solidifying the 14-3 victory.
DelVal topped the Monarchs in shots (35-14), saves (10-9), clears (19-10) and ground balls (34-28). Rawding led the Aggies' offense with 11 shots, nine on goal and five goals total. Birmingham led in draw controls with five and ground balls with seven.
The Aggies return to action this Saturday, Mar. 30 at Centenary for their third of four-straight on the road. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
