Doylestown, Pa. - The Delaware Valley men's lacrosse team fell to DePauw University 11-5 on Wednesday evening while hosting a Morgan's Message game to spread awareness of the importance of mental health in athletes.
The Tigers found the back of the net early, just over three minutes into the game. Henry White fired a pass in front of the net to Gavin Berry putting DePauw up 1-0. A slashing penalty was called on the Tigers to leave them a man-down, but it didn't matter as they got a shot past Aggie goalie Jim Murphy extending their lead.
In the second, DelVal found themselves on a two-man advantage but were only able to muster a lone shot on goal. Around the 11-minute mark, the Aggies turned the ball over which eventually led to Henry White picking the top right corner a tally. On the next faceoff, DePauw netted another goal going ahead by four. With 5:52 left in the half, the Tigers turned the ball over on a failed clear attempt leading Chris Marren in to beat a pair of defenders and the keeper, scoring his 15th of the season. DePauw won the following faceoff and scored right away making the score 5-1. The back-and-forth action continued when Jack Sprinkle scored with two defenders on him with four minutes to go. Murphy made back-to-back saves to end the first half keeping the Aggies within reach.
Both goalies were tested in the first five minutes of half two, the third shot Murphy saw went in the net but was called off with a Depauw player in the crease. The Tigers scored with 8:12 on the clock, scored by Beckett Tasker from ten yards out. Tasker scored another one two minutes later from the exact spot putting the Tigers ahead 7-2. With five minutes remaining, Kieran Schneider found the back of the net firing a shot while rushing the crease, trying to capture the momentum for DelVal. After a cross-checking penalty called on Ryley Savering, Depauw scored their eighth of the game, this one Connor Gibson a man-up forcing Aggie Coach Will Lawlor to call a timeout.
The Tigers opened the final frame with a goal, but Marren answered with a pair of goals to three minutes apart for his third hat-trick of the 2024 season making the score 9-5. The Tigers netted two goals in the final three minutes to seal their fifth win on the campaign.
The Aggies how now dropped every game since opening the season with two wins and are now 2-6 overall. DelVal men's lacrosse will be back in action at home on Saturday, March 30 against Centenary.
