DALLAS, PA. - Delaware Valley baseball fell to the 24th-ranked Misericordia Cougars after a strong outing by starting pitcher Derek Cannon 5-0. The Aggies fall to 9-8 overall and 1-3 in the MAC Freedom. Â
The Cougars got a run on the board in inning number one after a man walked and got to second, a blooper out to right-center field drove him in. Â
A pair of defensive plays kept the game 1-0 as Andrew Schnieder and Nathan Fisher caught a runner stealing second in the second inning. In the third, starting pitcher Cannon attempted a pickoff at first and the runner was called out in a run-down, tagged by James Miskanic. Â
Misericordia loaded the bases in the bottom of the fourth, but Cannon got a ground ball to short to end the inning. Â
Schnieder recorded the first Aggie hit in the top of the fifth with a liner to left center moving Fisher over to second who reached on an error. Â
With a man on third for the Cougars in the sixth, a sac-bunt scored the runner making it 2-0, the runner safe on an error on reliever Connor Esbenshade. They then put men on second and third, both scoring on a single to right field. Fisher caught a popup in the outfield and doubled up the runner on first to end the inning, Aggies trailing 5-0. Â
With postponements due to incoming weather, the Aggies next take the field on Wednesday, March 27 hosting Swarthmore College at 3:30 p.m.Â
