COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Delaware Valley women's lacrosse team kicked off their four-game road stretch at Ursinus dropping the contest to the Bears 24-3.
The teams went scoreless through the first six minutes of the first frame with Ursinus getting on the board first at the 8:56 mark. After a won draw control, the Bears turned it over to
Ashley Birmingham who cleared the ball for DelVal and found
Susan Rawding for the shot on goal saved by the Ursinus goalie.
Leilani Eckert was nearby for the ground ball recovery to reset play for the Aggies.
Katie Martin gained possession finding
Samantha Charles to even the score for DelVal, 1-1, with 7:56 to play in the first quarter.
The Bears went on to score 16 unanswered goals through the 8:48 mark of the third quarter. Ursinus ripped off another shot looking for goal 18 but failed to get by Aggies' goalie
Emily Drake.
Alyssa Rudd was nearby to gain possession and clear the ball for DelVal. With the ball in the stick of
Kyra McKeegan, she found Charles for the Aggies' second goal of the game.
Ursinus responded with a goal to make it 18-2, but Birmingham was ready for the Aggies scooping up the ground ball in the defensive zone and bringing it all the way out for the clear and ultimately an unassisted goal to make it 18-3. The Bears finished out the game with six more goals for the 24-3 win.
Birmingham led the Aggies in shots with five and shots on goal with four. Rudd led in ground balls with four. Rawding and Charles tied for the lead in draw controls with three apiece. Drake finished the game playing all 60 minutes in the net with nine saves.
DelVal returns to action next Thursday, Mar. 28 to kick off conference play at King's at 5 p.m.
