DelVal Baseball Earns Late Come From Behind Win Over PSU Schuylkill

DOYLESTOWN, PA- Delaware Valley hosted the Nittany Lions of PSU Schuylkill on Monday, March 18th. The Aggies are coming off a 2-2 week where they defeated Wilson and won one of the three games in a weekend series against DeSales. The Nittany Lions came into the game with a record of 9-5 coming off a double-header sweep over Southern Maine CC. After trailing by a score of 11-4, the Aggies would rally a come-from-behind win in the final three innings to earn a 16-14 victory over PSU Schuylkill. The game was concluded in the bottom of the 8th inning due to darkness.
The starting pitcher today for Delaware Valley was first-year Connor Newman

Penn State Schuykill started off the scoring with a bases loaded walk in the top of the 2nd inning to take a 1-0 lead. In the bottom of the inning, after reaching on an error, sophomore Gavin Migliori stole second and stole third base to get himself into scoring position. He would later score on a Reese Hackett RBI ground out to the shortstop

In the bottom of the third, Delaware Valley would take a 3-1 lead as the PSU pitcher would make a throwing error to first base.

The Nittany Lions would score three runs in the top of the 3rd inning to take a 4-3 lead. Shortly after, Jared McDonnell would then enter the game in relief.

Penn State would extend their lead on a 2-run RBI single to left field in the 4th inning, followed by an RBI ground out to the shortstop to take a 7-3 lead. The Nittany Lions would continue to score runs in the inning when an RBI double down the first base line, followed by an RBI single to left field would give PSU-Schuylkill a 9-3 lead.

Nate Fischer would come into the game on the mound for Delaware Valley during the end of the 4th inning.  

Delaware Valley got the offense going in the bottom of the 5th as junior Jimmy Kelly hit a triple down the right field line with one out. He would eventually score on a RBI base hit by Gavin Migliori to cut the deficit 9-4.

Penn State would then score two runs in the top of the 6th to take an 11-4 lead.

The Aggies would get runners on first and second with no outs in the bottom half of the inning. After a converted double steal, Ty Gossel hit an RBI single to make it an 11-5 ballgame.

Later on in the inning, first-year SamueleMattia hit a double down the left field line to make it 11-6. With the bases loaded, graduate student Hank Beilen would hit an RBI fielders choice to cut the deficit 11-7. Gavin Migliori would soon after hit a triple to score two runs to continue the big inning for the Aggies offense.

Penn State would respond in the top of the 7th with 3 runs to extend the lead 14-9.

In the bottom of the 8th inning, Samuele Mattia would lead off the inning with a double. After a walk from Jimmy Kelly, Beilen would knock in an RBI single to cut the lead 14-11.

The Aggies would then take a 14-12 lead as sophomore Liam Martin would earn a pinch-hit bases-loaded walk.

The pitcher Lucas Santise would get a chance to step into the batter's box, where he would come up massive with a 2-run RBI single. 
With two outs, Samuele Mattia would come up as the hero with a two-run RBI single to give the Aggies a 16-14 lead. The game was then ended by the umpires due to darkness on the field.

Delaware Valley improves to 7-8 on the season and 6-6 in non conference play. The Aggies will be back in action on Wednesday, March 20th against The City College of New York.
