DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – The Delaware Valley baseball team lead by five runs until the top of the fourth inning when the DeSales Bulldogs mounted a six-run comeback to take a 7-6 lead at the top of the ninth inning. With the bases loaded,
Evan Scally stepped up to the plate singling up the middle to send home
Gavin Migliori and
Lucas Santise home for the 8-7 walk-off victory.
DelVal improves to 6-6 overall and 1-0 in MAC Freedom play. The victory marks the third-straight walk-off for the Aggies.
The Aggies started off strong in the first inning with
Hank Bielen doubling to right center to push
Jonathan Drews and
Liam Martin home to push DelVal ahead 2-0. With Bielen advancing to third on a wild pitch, Migliori singled to left to bring him home for the 3-0 advantage.
Reese Hackett stepped up to the plate with no outs on the board and Migliori on third. Hackett grounded to second resulting in a double-play but sending Migliori home for the 4-0 lead.
In the second frame, the Bulldogs got on the board to make it a three-run game, 4-1. With the Aggies at bat,
Liam Martin walked to advance Jake Miskanic to second when Drews singled to right center to send Miskanic around third and through to home for the 5-1 lead. Martin advanced to third on the play scoring on the next with a sacrifice fly from Bielen to make it a 6-1 game.
The Bulldogs began to mount their comeback scoring six unanswered runs through the next five innings to take a 7-6 lead. The Aggies couldn't come out with a run at the bottom of the eighth but held DeSales scoreless at the top of the ninth to move into the bottom of the ninth trailing by just one.
Both Miskanic and Martin grounded out to start the bottom of the ninth. With two outs on the board, Drews landed on base due to an error from the short stop with
Ridge Watson replacing him at a pinch runner. Bielen followed up by singling to left center advancing Ridge to second. Santise stepped in on base for Bielen with Migliori at bat singling to third to load the bases. Scally stepped up to the plate for the Aggies singling up the middle to advance Santise and Watson for the 8-7 win.
DelVal returns to action this Saturday, Mar. 16 visiting DeSales for a double-header in Center Valley starting at 12 p.m.
