DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – The Delaware Valley women's lacrosse team fell behind in an early deficit to the Immaculata Mighty Macs ultimately dropping the contest 17-6 on Wednesday night.
The Mighty Macs defense kept the Aggies scoreless through the first frame holding the DelVal to just three shots on goal in 15 minutes while tallying nine goals themselves for the early lead.
Immaculata opened up the first eight minutes of the second quarter with two more goals to extend their lead to 11-0. A draw control by
Ashley Birmingham put the Aggies in possession with the ball landing in the stick of
Kyra McKeegan who found
Susan Rawding to end the Aggies scoring drought, 11-1.
Three minutes passed when
Anna Kimbel picked up a loose ball off a goalie save and dumped it off to Birmingham for the goal to cut the Aggies deficit to nine, 11-2. DelVal's scoring streak continued just a minute later with McKeegan and Rawding teaming up yet again to make it an eight-goal game, 11-3, heading into the third quarter.
The Aggies gave up one goal to the Mighty Macs 40 seconds into the third quarter, but it was not long before
Samantha Charles and McKeegan netted two unassisted goals to make it a 12-5 game. Immaculata held a five-goal advantage through the rest of the quarter to pull ahead, 17-5, heading into the final frame.
Birmingham held the lone goal in the fourth quarter capitalizing on the free position attempt ripping the shot right past the Mighty Macs goalie to make the final score 17-6.
Birmingham led the Aggies in shots (7) and shots on goal (5). She tied for first in draw controls with
Viola Anderson each totaling two. Birmingham and
Samantha McCurry picked up a team-high four ground balls apiece.
Emily Drake played all 60 minutes in the net making nine saves.
DelVal embarks on a two-week stretch of road games kicking off the first of four next Wednesday, Mar. 20 at Ursinus at 4 p.m.
