Men's Hoops Drops Close Contest to Immaculata 65-61

IMMACULATA, Pa. – The Delaware Valley men's basketball team fell to a 3-3 record after losing to Immaculata University 65-61 in Wednesday night's game.

Kamal Johnson led the Aggies with 13 points, shooting 5-of-9 from the floor, while Zoelin Pair grabbed 16 rebounds, just two shy of his career-high set during his freshman season.

The game started with Reggie Washington scoring the first bucket for the Aggies in the opening two minutes, as both teams kept the score close early on. Mike Herrin's first basket of the night gave DelVal its first lead, and Pair followed with a dunk. With 8:08 remaining in the first half, Caleb Johnson hit a three-pointer, after Washington had sunk another, giving the Aggies their largest lead of the night at 22-13.

Immaculata responded with a 10-0 run, taking the lead before Jordan Gombs put DelVal back in front. Down by three, Kamal Johnson was fouled while making a basket and hit the ensuing free throw, tying the game at 32 as the teams headed into halftime.

After a few early turnovers to start the second half, both teams traded layups, with DelVal's coming from Antonio Redding. The Mighty Macs went on another impressive 9-0 run before Pair assisted Caleb Johnson on a three-pointer to stop the run. Around the halfway point, Kevin Telsford hit a three-pointer for Immaculata, giving them a 47-45 lead, but Gombs responded after a free throw with a three-point play to briefly reclaim the lead for the Aggies.

The teams continued to trade scores, with Pair completing an alley-oop dunk off a pass from Herrin, tying the game at 54. With under 10 seconds remaining, the Aggies were down by five when Kamal Johnson drained a three-pointer. However, a foul sent John Flood to the free-throw line, where he made both attempts, sealing the win for the Mighty Macs.

The Aggies will return home on Saturday, Dec. 7, for a MAC crossover game against York College (Pa.) at 2:00 p.m.
