Redding Guides Aggies Past Haverford in Second Half Shootout

DOYLESTOWN, Pa.Antonio Redding and Mike Herrin combined for 51 points to lead the Aggies to a narrow 92-89 victory over Haverford College on Tuesday afternoon.

The Fords opened the scoring, but the Aggies quickly responded, building a 13-6 lead with four three-pointers from Jake McGinty, Herrin, Redding, and MarQuel Fitzgerald. Zoelin Pair contributed with back-to-back layups, followed by a layup from new roster addition Jeremiah Alexander, giving DelVal its largest lead of the game, up by 12.

However, the Fords battled back, hitting a pair of threes. With 4:18 left in the first half, Alex George tied the game at 30. The Fords closed out the first half on a 5-1 run, taking a 37-33 lead into the locker room.

Herrin opened the second half with a dunk following a steal by McGinty, then added a jumper and a three-pointer to keep the game tied. Jordan Gombs and Fitzgerald contributed key fast-break layups to keep the Aggies close. With 13 minutes remaining, Herrin hit two three-pointers, thanks to a steal by Pair, but was assessed a technical foul after one of the buckets. Two minutes later, Redding hit a pair of long-range shots, and Pair added a layup, giving the Aggies a nine-point advantage.

Herrin and Redding continued their hot streak, maintaining the lead, but the Fords clawed back to within one point with four minutes left.

Redding led the Aggies with a career-high 28 points going 8-10 outside the arc while Pair led the defensive effort with eight rebounds and four blocks.

In the final minute, with Haverford resorting to fouling, the Aggies went 8-for-10 from the free-throw line to secure their fifth win of the season. With the victory, DelVal improved to a .500 record (5-5). The Aggies will take on Washington College (Md.) in Chestertown this Saturday, Jan. 4, before beginning MAC Freedom play on Jan. 8 at Misericordia.
