Box Score DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – The Delaware Valley men's basketball team closed a 10-point lead to just one in the final minute and 30 seconds of the game but couldn't hold on dropping the contest 56-52 to McDaniel College at home on Tuesday night.
The teams traded points through the first five minutes until a 3-pointer from McDaniel sparked a 9-1 run over the ensuing three minutes to create an eight-point advantage for the Green Terror, 13-5, with 11 minutes to play in the half.
Zoelin Pair and
Reggie Washington combined for four points to cut the deficit to four, 13-9, over the next minute.
McDaniel led by 10 with 7:50 on the clock when
Kamal Johnson and
Mike Herrin paired together for a six-point performance to bring the deficit down to four, 20-16. The Green Terror continued with a 6-2 run to take an eight-point lead. Herrin answered knocking down the long ball followed by an and one attempt from
Jordan Gombs to make it a four-point game just under the two-minute mark, 28-24. McDaniel followed up with four unanswered points to take a 32-26 lead into the half.
Pair, Gombs and Herrin put up seven points to help the Aggies close the gap to just four, 37-33, to start the half. A two-minute scoring drought followed ended by four unanswered points for the Green Terror over a 30-second span. DelVal's defense held McDaniel to just two points over the next four minutes while offensively tallying six points to keep the lead within close reach, 43-39, with just under 10 minutes in the game.
McDaniel extended its lead to nine, but 5-of-6 shooting from the line for the Aggies helped to bring the deficit back down to four, 48-44. The Green Terror tried to pull ahead but Johnson and Gombs combined for six points to bring the score the closest it had been since the start of the game, 51-50, with 1:30 left in the game. McDaniel sunk the bucket and drew the foul with 10 seconds to regain a four-point edge, 54-50. The Green Terrors edged out the Aggies with a final score of 56-52.
Herrin led the Aggies in scoring with a team-high 13 points joined by Gombs and Johnson with 12 points apiece. Pair and Gombs both led the battle at the boards with six rebounds each. Pair added a team-high three blocks while Gomb tallied a team-high three steals.
The Aggies return to action at home on Tuesday, Dec. 31 when the host Haverford College at 2 p.m.
