DALLAS, Pa. – The Delaware Valley women's volleyball team fell behind two sets before securing the third, but ultimately dropped the final set to end the match 3-1 at Misericordia.
The Cougars offense held strong in the first match holding the Aggies to just nine points with kills from
Grace Kane,
Emma Helverson,
Zariah Prescott and
Victoria Tucker. The Aggies offense picked up in the second set putting up 19 points. A kill from Helverson gave DelVal a small 2-1 lead. The Cougars evened the score twice before pulling ahead, 5-4.
A kill from
Grace Kane started off a 6-2 run for the Aggies to give them their biggest lead of the set, 11-7. Misericordia responded with a 7-2 run to even score at 14 apiece. A service ace from Helverson put DelVal ahead once more, but an 11-4 run from the Cougars ended the set in their favor, 25-19.
DelVal used a 6-2 run with three kills from
Gretta Schneider to close an early three-point gap and take the 6-5 lead to start the third set. The teams knotted the score three times before a short 4-0 run put the Cougars in the lead, 11-8. The Aggies remained in chase with Kane putting up three kills in a 9-4 run to regain a two-point advantage, 17-15. Misericordia battled back, but Schneider and Kane combined for two kills to put the Aggies back on top, 22-20. The teams went 3-3 to finish the set in favor of the Aggies, 25-23.
The Aggies held a slight 6-5 edge over the Cougars in the fourth set. Misericordia responded with a 7-0 run to take a lead that it wouldn't relinquish maintaining the 13-10 advantage through the rest of the set for the 25-16 win.
DelVal returns to action this Saturday, Oct. 12 at 1 p.m. when they host Moravian at home.
