DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – The Delaware Valley women's volleyball team sent two sets into extra points but failed to gain an edge falling to Moravian 3-0 on Saturday afternoon.
The Aggies fell to an early 7-2 deficit to start the first set and remained in chase unable to get closer than two points, 19-17, thanks to a small 3-0 run with kills from
Grace Kane and
Kai Logan. The Greyhounds responded with four unanswered points before giving up two points to DelVal to make it a four-point game, 23-19. Moravian held the final 2-1 edge for the 25-20 win.
DelVal used a 5-2 run to close a four-point gap coming within just a single point of the Greyhounds lead, 7-6, to start the second set. Moravian maintained the edge pulling head by as many as five before an
Emma Helverson kill began an Aggies comeback using a 7-2 run to even the score, 17-17. The Aggies took a single-point lead twice before the Greyhounds regained a two-point advantage, 24-22. The teams battled back and forth for the final victory with Moravian ending the set on a 3-0 run to take the win, 29-27.
The Aggies were the first to strike in the final set off a kill from Helverson. The teams traded points until a 5-0 run from the Greyhounds put them in a three-point lead, 9-6. DelVal used a 4-1 spurt to even the score again at 10 apiece. DelVal gained the lead once, but another short 3-0 run by Moravian put the Aggies behind by four, 16-12. A kill from
Victoria Tucker brought the Aggies within two, 18-16, until a 4-0 run from the Greyhounds built a six-point gap. Tucker kicked off a 4-0 run for the Aggies to close the deficit to two again and start a battle for the win. A kill from
Zariah Prescott capped off a 5-1 run for the Aggies to put them a single point away from victory, 25-24. Moravian ended the set with a 6-3 run to take the lead 30-28.
DelVal returns to action Tuesday, Oct. 15 to face MAC Conference foe DeSales on the road at 7 p.m.
