DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – The Men's Soccer team defeated Albright College 3-2 on Senior Night, highlighted by a penalty kick goal from senior Andrew Grunwald. The evening celebrated Grunwald alongside fellow seniors RJ Alvarez, Danny Henson, and Michael Maxwell.
The match began with the Lions taking an early lead as Christian Bowles found the back of the net in the sixth minute. Just a minute later, Rourke Watson fired the first shot on goal for the Aggies, which was saved. After a series of exchanged shots, Kervening Thelistin scored shortly after entering the game, assisted by Jacob Luciani, leveling the score at 1-1.
In the 30th minute, Albright's Julien Moll received a yellow card for a foul on an Aggie player. As the half drew to a close, Amos Debah launched a shot on goal, helping the Aggies edge the Lions with nine shots to eight in the first 45 minutes.
Keeper Nick Becker earned a yellow card for rushing out of the goal and fouling a Lion in a race for the ball. In the 55th minute, a pass from Alvarez found Roy Hevener, who scored to give DelVal a 2-1 lead. However, just eight minutes later, Bowles equalized for the Lions with his second goal of the night following a corner kick.
With 23:31 remaining, Alvarez was fouled in the box, earning the Aggies a penalty kick. Grunwald stepped up to take the shot and successfully recaptured the lead for DelVal. In the 76th minute, Everett Kurtz received a yellow card, and a subsequent mistake gave the Lions a free kick just eight yards from the goal. The entire DelVal team stood side-by-side with Becker, successfully blocking the shot to secure the victory. Before time expired, Henson was also issued a yellow card.
With this win on Senior Night, the Aggies improved to 8-3-2 overall. They will next face King's College on Saturday, Oct. 12.
