DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – The Delaware Valley field hockey team netted an early goal and never looked back defeating King's in a 2-0 shutout in the final home game of the regular season.
The Aggies' offense came out hot with
Kaylee Hartung firing off three shots over the first 1:41. Hartung's third shot hit off the post sending the ball into open space out front of the net where
Paige Sammons scooped it up for the dump into the cage to put the Aggies up 1-0 early.
King's looked for the equalizer with just under a minute to play in the half taking the shot off a penalty corner.
Olivia Rexrode stepped up to make the defensive save, but the Monarchs earned a penalty stroke on the play.
Alyssa Rudd made the diving save stopping the shot to keep DelVal ahead headed into the second half.
DelVal had a chance to extend its lead nine minutes into the third frame on its fourth corner in a two minute-span.
Sydney Keagle send the shot up to
Ashley Birmingham for the pass back to Keagle on the left post deflecting the shot just wide of the goal. The Aggies dominated possession through the rest of the quarter, tallying five shots.
A penalty stroke in the fifth minute of the fourth quarter put Birmingham on the line lifting the ball into the top left of the cage to extend the Aggies' lead to 2-0. The Monarchs shifted possession in their favor earning a penalty corner just three minutes later. King's ripped a shot from the top of the circle met by the stick of
Kenzie Boyd for the block.
DelVal returns to action this Saturday, Nov. 2 at Lebanon Valley in a 6 p.m. showdown.
