DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – The Delaware Valley women's volleyball team took the first set of the match before almost sending the game to a fifth set but fell just two points short to drop the match to Arcadia, 3-1.
A kill from
Gretta Schneider helped the Aggies put together a 4-0 run to close an early three-point deficit. Arcadia closed the gap to take the lead, but a kill from
Victoria Tucker in a 4-1 run put DelVal back in the lead, 11-10. Kills from
Madison Alexander and
Emma Helverson helped push the Aggies ahead by two. DelVal maintained its edge, scoring three of the final four points to win the set, 25-22.
DelVal fell behind by six points to start the second set before putting together an 8-2 run to even the score, 9-9. The Aggies continued their attack, putting up three consecutive points to take their first and only lead of the set, 12-10. The Knights responded with a huge 15-2 run to take the set, 25-14.
The lead changed hands three times before a kill from
Grace Kane started off a 4-0 run to put DelVal ahead by three, 8-5. The Knights responded with a 9-2 run to take a lead it wouldn't relinquish giving up two points before ending the set on an 11-2 run to win, 25-14.
Trailing by one point, a service ace from Helverson combined with kills from both Schneider and
Samantha Wilton helped the Aggies with a 6-0 run to take a five-point lead, 8-3. The Knights chased after the lead but kills from Kane and
Kai Logan helped to keep the Aggies ahead until a small 3-0 spurt put the lead in the hands of Arcadia, 13-12. The game saw two lead changes before Arcadia managed to maintain a small edge over the Aggies until kills from Schneider and Kane shifted the lead back in favor of DelVal for the match point, 24-23. The Knights scored four of the final five points in the set for the win, 27-25.
DelVal returns to action on Tuesday, October 29 on the road at Lebanon Valley for a 7 p.m. matchup.
