DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – Delaware Valley football triumphed over RV FDU-Florham 33-8 on Saturday afternoon during homecoming weekend.
Jacquez Mabin set a new program record by recording five sacks.
The Aggies capitalized on their first drive, with
Nick Arcaroli completing two passes to
Nahsir Morgan. A 16-yard pass to
Jack Fallon brought DelVal to the FDU 2-yard line, where Arcaroli then found the end zone.
Brendan Hazell successfully kicked the extra point, putting the Aggies ahead 7-0.
A 44-yard punt pushed the Aggies back to their own 8-yard line, and a holding penalty moved them further back. Arcaroli was sacked in the end zone, resulting in a safety for FDU.
In the second quarter, a pass to
Dillon Shamanow gained 25 yards, setting up a touchdown for Fallon from the 5-yard line, bringing the score to 14-2. A sack by
Darius Nichols and two incompletions ended the Devils' next drive. The Aggies struggled as well, going four and out.
Midway through the second quarter, with FDU on their own 36, Mabin sacked quarterback Ryon Thomas, causing a fumble that
Andrew Vernieri recovered for the Aggies. Completions to Shamanow and
Jasiah Davis set up a seven-yard rushing touchdown by Arcaroli, his second of the afternoon.
The Devils advanced down the field but, as time expired, Mabin sacked the quarterback again for a nine-yard loss, sending the game to halftime.
After the break, the Devils were back in the Aggies' territory at the 39. On third down,
Jovan Tyrell broke up a short pass, and Mabin pressured the quarterback into an incompletion.
A penalty pushed DelVal back to start their next drive. However,
Karmi Hicks made a 26-yard reception, and on fourth and four, FDU was penalized for pass interference, giving the Aggies a fresh set of downs. Now at the 25-yard line, Fallon broke tackles to score again. Although Hazell's kick was blocked, DelVal extended their lead to 27-2.
FDU-Florham struggled to move the ball due to penalties, and on third down,
CJ Williams intercepted a wayward pass, ending the drive. An interception was thrown right back to the Devils, but a few plays later, Mabin forced another fumble that
Brandon Perot recovered.
The Devils finally reached the end zone to start the fourth quarter with a one-yard rush by Kwanir Edwards, following a Ryon Thomas score that was overturned. An unsuccessful onside kick attempt gave DelVal possession at the FDU 42.
Eight short rushes by Fallon, Arcaroli, and
Elijah Williams set the Aggies up at the 13-yard line, where Arcaroli connected with Morgan in the corner of the end zone for another Aggies score.
With this victory on homecoming, Delaware Valley improved to 5-1 overall and 4-1 in the MAC. They will return to James Work Memorial Stadium next Saturday, Oct. 26, to host Albright College at 12:00 p.m.
