GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. – The Delaware Valley women's volleyball team secured a first set win before dropping the next three consecutive sets to fall to Gwynedd Mercy 3-1 on Thursday night.

Victoria Tucker helped push the Aggies to a two-point lead over the Griffins to start the first set. DelVal's offense remained strong, putting together a 4-1 run to expand the lead to four, 11-7. The Griffins closed the gap to one before a small 3-0 run pushed the Aggies back up to a four-point lead, 17-13. The Aggies maintained the edge over Gwynedd Mercy through the remainder of the set finishing off the scoring with a 4-1 run to win 25-21.
The Griffins were the first on the board in the second set, gaining a lead that the Aggies tied twice before falling to a deficit of three. DelVal closed the gap to just a single point twice eventually evening the score at 14 apiece. Once again, the Griffins pulled ahead leaving the Aggies in a close chase until they ended the set with a 5-0 run for the win, 25-19.
Kai Logan,
Emma Helverson and Kane put DelVal up 6-1 to start the third set. The Griffins committed a series of errors paired with a Helverson service ace to help DelVal expand its lead to six, 10-4. Scoring picked up for Gwynedd Mercy, but the Aggies maintained the edge until a small 3-0 spurt tied the score, 19-19.
Kai Logan recorded back-to-back kills to put DelVal back on top, 22-20. The Griffins held the 5-1 advantage through the rest of the set for the win, 25-23.
Helverson and Schneider teamed up with
Madison Alexander for three unanswered points to kick off the fourth set. Kills from Schneider and Tucker ensued to help the Aggies maintain a three-point lead, but the Griffins answered back with a 6-0 run to shift the three-point advantage in their favor, 10-7. Tucker, Logan and
Nia Walker put up four kills to place the Aggies back in a single-point lead, 12-11. The teams knotted the score four times until DelVal put up five consecutive points to take a four-point lead, 18-15. The Griffins put together a 10-2 run to end the set with the win, 25-21.
DelVal returns to action this Saturday, Oct. 19 when they head to Rutgers Camden to face the Scarlet Raptors at 11 a.m. before going head-to-head with Hunter College at 1 p.m.
