Late Defensive Stops Lift Aggies to Victory Over LVC

Annville, Pa. – Delaware Valley football defeated Lebanon Valley 21-16 thanks to a game-winning reception by Dillon Shamanow in the third quarter and multiple late defensive stops.

The Dutchmen received the kickoff to begin Week 6, and after advancing to the DVU 44-yard line, Micah Bootman forced and recovered a fumble, giving the ball to the Aggie offense. A pass interference call against LVC, followed by a 30-yard run by Louie Barrios IV, set the Aggies up on the LVC 14. Another penalty against the Dutchmen allowed Jack Fallon to dash up the middle, giving the Aggies an early 7-0 lead.

On the following drive, an unnecessary roughness penalty against the Aggies put LVC in DelVal territory. Quarterback Bohannon ran for 19 yards, then took it in himself from two yards out, tying the game at 7-7.

Near the end of the first quarter, Nick Arcaroli completed a short pass to Nahsir Morgan, who dashed down the sideline for an 18-yard gain. A couple of short runs from Fallon were followed by Barrios finding Jasiah Davis for a 26-yard gain, setting up a first-and-goal at the LVC 1. On the second attempt, Fallon found the end zone again, and Brendan Hazell nailed the PAT, giving DelVal a 14-7 lead.

The Dutchmen marched down to the Delaware Valley 19 but were met by Shaun Balkcom, Brandon Perot, and Dante Vernieri. A pass breakup by Darius Nichols forced a field goal attempt, allowing LVC to narrow the gap to 14-10. Lebanon Valley forced a three-and-out for the Aggies, but Bootman intercepted Logan Klitsch in the end zone on their next possession.

With 20 seconds left in the first half, the Dutchmen found themselves on the DelVal three-yard line. The Aggies managed a pair of stops, but eventually, Deshawn Wilson caught a two-yard touchdown pass, giving LVC a 16-14 lead at halftime.

Three first downs—two runs and one catch—by Fallon put the Aggies in striking distance after receiving the second-half kickoff. The pocket held firm for Barrios, who found Shamanow wide open in the end zone for his second touchdown of the season.

Lebanon Valley threatened twice in the fourth quarter but fumbled on the goal line, with Andrew Vernieri recovering the ball during the first attempt. Later in the quarter, with two minutes remaining, the Dutchmen turned the ball over on downs after a QB hurry by Jacquez Mabin forced an incomplete pass.

As time expired on the final play, the Dutchmen fumbled once again, with the Aggies recovering and securing their fourth win of the season.

The Aggies improve to 4-1 overall and 3-1 in the MAC. Next week, DelVal faces the undefeated FDU-Florham Devils at home for Homecoming weekend on Saturday, Oct. 19. Kickoff is set for 12:00 p.m. at Robert A. Lipinski Field.
