DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – The Delaware Valley men's basketball team overcame a 15-point deficit coming within a single-point of tying the contest with seconds remaining, but fell just short ultimately dropping the contest to FDU-Florham, 71-70. The Aggies fall to 7-13 overall and 1-8 in conference play.
Two scoreless minutes passed before
Rasheem Dearry knocked down the three to put the Aggies on the board to start the game. The Devils responded with an 10-2 run over the next three minutes to pull ahead by seven, 12-5.
Godly Marc and
Justin Ramsey-Blythe combined for six points in the next minute of play to cut the deficit to five, 16-11.
The squads continued to trade buckets with the Devils unable to pull ahead by more than eight until a 7-0 run extended the lead to 13, 28-15, to force an Aggies timeout with 8:37 remaining in the half. Dearry and Redding ended a nearly five-minute scoring drought with a short 4-0 spurt to bring the deficit down to 11, 30-19. The Devils held a slight 5-4 edge through the next two minutes until a
Kamal Johnson and one brought the lead back down to single-digits, 35-26. FDU-Florham maintained a 9-6 advantage over DelVal to end the half with the 44-32 lead.
DelVal kicked off the second half the way it started the first with
Antonio Redding converting from beyond the arc in the first minute. The defense held the Devils scoreless giving time for Dearry to put up five points and make it a four-point game, 44-40. The Devils pulled ahead by eight, but the threes continued to fall for the Aggies with
Kamal Johnson knocking one down to bring the score to 48-43.
Three pointers from Redding, Dearry and
Goddy Marc brought the Aggies the closest they had been since early in the first half, trailing by just four points, 59-55. FDU-Florham used a 12-8 run to build up its lead back to eight, 71-63, with two minutes remaining on the clock. DelVal cut the deficit down to just five when Dearry got the bucket and the foul with just 23 seconds on the clock to put the Aggies within one basket of tying, 71-69. With a chance to tie the game, Pair stepped up to the line once again sinking 1-of-2 to put the Aggies behind by just one. The final possession of the game belonged to DelVal, with time winding down
Tyriq Toney-Bailey stepped up beyond the arc just missing the shot leaving the final score at 71-70.
