Langhorne, Pa. - Junior Jess Williamson and graduate student Savannah Rennix both net hat-tricks for Delaware Valley University in a Thursday night 6-1 victory at Cairn University.
The Aggies struck first in the 15th minute as a fast break had graduate student Kailey Horton found Rennix in front of the net, She juked the keeper and found the twine to put DelVal on top 1-0. Out of a water break, Williamson broke down the middle of the field past three defenders to score her first goal of the 2023 season in the 24th minute. The Highlanders cut the lead in half five minutes later when Teresa Lee beat junior keeper Viola Anderson. The half ended with an Aggie corner kick where junior Meztly Garcia sent a shot over the net.
Williamson notched her second goal of the game at 52:36 when Horton shot the ball and it dropped right in front of Williamson, recapturing the two-goal advantage. Rennix netted her second goal of the contest six minutes later, beating the goalie from outside the box in the far-left corner, making it 4-1 DelVal. Rennix and Williamson both went on to net their third goals of the game in the 66th and 74th minute respectively; junior Sydney Dispoto and sophomore Caitlin Martinez picked up the assists. Sophomore goalkeeper Nicole Shisler played the second half and saved both shots that came her way.
With the commanding victory, the Aggies improved to 2-2-0 and next hit the field Tuesday, September 12 when they visit Bryn Mawr at 4:30 p.m. Cairn fell to 0-2-0 and are next set to visit Penn College on Wednesday, September 13.
