Doylestown, Pa. - The Delaware Valley women's soccer team fell short in a second half comeback to Stevenson University 5-3 on Wednesday night.
First Half
The Mustangs scored early, just 42-seconds in, as Karly Sheahan found the back of the net putting Stevenson on top. Off the kickoff, they were on the attack again when Cassidy Bulter hit the crossbar behind junior goalkeeper Viola Anderson. The Aggies tied the game when junior Gillian Baker took a free kick and after bouncing off a defender found graduate student Savannah Rennix to tie the game. The Mustangs spent most of the half defending with Stevenson banking two more shots off the crossbar.
Stevenson scored two goals opening the second half, the first coming from Shania Hyatt in the 56th minute, then the second off the foot of Cassidy Butler in the 74th minute. 30-seconds later, DelVal's Marley Bramsway would grab momentum, netting her first of the season. Soon after, Rennix found herself alone behind the defenders to tie the game at three with 12 minutes to go. The comeback would fall short when Stevenson's Cassidy Butler recaptured the lead for the Mustangs with just four minutes on the clock. Butler would score again to seal the game as she was awarded a penalty shot when Anderson came out to challenge Kamille Purcell and took her down in the final minute.
Following the loss, DelVal falls to 1-2-0 and will next travel to Cairn University tomorrow, Thursday, September 7, at 7:00 p.m. Stevenson improves to 1-1-1 and are next in action on Saturday, September 9, as they host Marymount University.
