Gwynedd Valley, Pa. - Delaware Valley Field Hockey got back in the win column this afternoon with a 4-1 victory over the Griffins of Gwynedd Mercy.
The Aggie started off the scoring midway through the first period as sophomore Kaylee Hartung scored off a pass from senior Ashley Birmingham. The Griffins tied the game in the second period with a goal from Laura Filchner. After a scoreless third period, DelVal would take a commanding lead as Hartung would net her second and third goal of the game in the final period. Hartung's third goal was assisted by senior Sydney Keagle. This was the first career hat trick for Hartung and the first time this season a DelVal player has scored three or more goals in a game. The Aggies would extend their lead in the final minute of the fourth period when senior Samantha McCurry scored her first career goal for Delaware Valley.
First-year goaltender, Shaelynn Castanaga-Acerra picked up her first career wins as she let the Aggies with two saves on the day. The Aggies will be back in action Tuesday when they travel to face off against the Rangers of Drew University in their final non-conference game of the regular season.
