Men's Soccer Gives Up Early Lead in Season Opener to Cabrini

Radnor, Pa. - The Delaware Valley University men's soccer team lost their 2023 season opener to Cabrini University despite having the early advantage on Sunday afternoon.

At the 11-minute mark, the Aggies inserted a corner. After rebounding out of the box, junior Aaron Osborne found senior Danny Henson in alone behind the defenders and he beat the goalkeeper over the right side for a 1-0 lead. Cabrini's Kevin Davis was dealt a yellow card after attempting to argue an offside call. The remainder of the half was spent mostly in the DelVal zone, but the defense and junior keeper Andrew Roberto, with four saves, held onto the lead going into the break.

Junior goalkeeper Liam Morris entered the game and was tested early with a Cabrini shot off a corner kick. Henson was given a yellow card two and a half minutes in for an aggressive shoulder that sent a Cavalier to the turf in the 48th minute. Two more yellows were given to DelVal junior Peirce Marks and Cabrini's Hunter Rolles 45 seconds apart in the 54th and 55th minute. The Cavaliers tied the game at 65:21 as Ethan Emery picked the top right corner over Morris from outside the box. They then took the lead when Matt Duddy beat a defender and chipped it over the challenging keeper Roberto to put Cabrini on top with less than 13 minutes to go.

With the loss, DelVal falls to 0-1-0 and will be in action Saturday, September 9 at 1:00 p.m. as they host the University of Valley Forge at Robert A. Lipinski Field. The Cavaliers improve to 2-0-0 and next travel to DeSales University on Wednesday, September 6.
