Women’s Volleyball Sweeps at Penn State Abington Tri-Match

ABINGTON, Pa. – The Delaware Valley women's volleyball team cruise to two-straight 3-0 wins over Saint Elizabeth and Penn State Abington to walk away from the tri-match with a clean sweep on Saturday. This marks the first clean sweep in a tri-match for the Aggies this season.

MATCH ONE VS. SAINT ELIZABETH, 3-0
The Aggies jumped out to a quick 4-1 start in the first step generating one error to stop the scoring run before responding with another 4-1 spurt with three different Aggies recording kills to take an 8-2 lead. The offense continued to dominate with a 7-1 run capped off by a Samantha Wilton service ace for the 15-7 advantage. Saint Elizabeth struggled to get a run going with back-to-back kills from Zariah Prescott and Jena Kreiser giving Delaware Valley its final two points to take the set 25-15.

Saint Elizabeth came out with the first two points of the game until Gretta Schneider ended the short run with a kill and back-to-back service aces to put DelVal ahead 3-2. Saint Elizabeth managed to tie it up and keep the ensuing deficit within three until seven unanswered points from the Aggies created a 14-4 deficit for Saint Elizabeth who answered with its first real run of the match, 4-0, bringing down the gap to five, 14-9. DelVal held the 11-3 edge through the rest of the set to take it 25-12.

Schneider started things off yet again with a service ace to help DelVal with an early 2-0 lead. An error put Saint Elizabeth on the board with the Aggies holding them to that single point through a 4-0 run to take a 6-1 lead. Saint Elizabeth put together a 5-1 run to keep it to a one-point game through the next two serves, but two straight kills from the Aggies put them ahead by two leaving Saint Elizabeth in chase through the remainder of the set. The teams continued to trade points before a 4-0 run from the Aggies put up a five-point gap, too big for Saint Elizabeth to overcome, 20-15. DelVal held the 5-4 edge to take the set 25-19.

Emma Helverson, Victoria Tucker and Olivia Deffendall all evenly shared the offensive duties with six kills apiece. Emily Yun and Schneider recorded three service aces each. Grace Wilson led the defensive efforts with a team-high 12 digs.

MATCH TWO VS. PENN STATE ABINGTON, 3-0
Delaware Valley gave up an early lead to the Nittany Lions in set one falling behind by two, 3-1, before mounting a 2-0 run to tie it up. Still trailing behind Penn State, the Aggies put together a 4-0 run capped off with back-to-back Wilton service aces to take their second lead of the set, 10-8. DelVal maintained the advantage with a 4-0 run from the Nittany Lions tying the score at 13 apiece. The Aggies responded quickly with six unanswered points for the 19-13 lead. DelVal held the 6-3 edge over the Nittany Lions through the rest of the set taking it 25-16.

DelVal was first on the attack to start the second keeping at least a one-point advantage over the Nittany Lions until a 3-0 run put Penn State on top, 7-5. DelVal was quick to respond thanks to the attack from Olivia Deffendall taking a 9-7 lead. The Nittany Lions tied it again at 13-13 with DelVal continuing to maintain its advantage until a 3-0 run from the Nittany Lions but the Aggies behind once again, 18-17. The deficit didn't last for long with DelVal going on a 4-0 run to create a three-point lead, 21-18. But once again the Nittany Lions were there to answer the call with five unanswered points for the 23-21 lead. DelVal rounded out the set going 4-0 to take the win 25-23.

This time the DelVal offense was quick to build up a lead with a 4-1 run to start the set. The Nittany Lions answered the call eventually building up an 11-8 advantage over the Aggies. DelVal put up a 6-1 run to regain a 14-12 lead over Penn State. The Nittany Lions came back within one point, 18-17, before the Aggies ended the set on a massive 7-0 run for the 25-17 win.
