Women's Soccer Nets Five Unanswered in Win Over Gwynedd Mercy

Doylestown, Pa. – The Delaware Valley Women's Soccer team netted five goals from four different scorers in a convincing win over Gwynedd Mercy University on Saturday Afternoon 5-1.

The Griffins got out to an early lead as Ksenia Semenovyh snuck one behind sophomore goalkeeper Nicole Shisler just six minutes into the match. After multiple scoring chances, the Aggies found the back of the net when junior Jess Williamson had her shot blocked and fellow junior Meztly Garcia chipped in the rebound with seven minutes to go in the first half. DelVal's first-year Eric Shuey gave her team the lead by shooting the ball back towards net with the goalkeeper down and out with just 17 seconds left before heading into the break.

The second have was filled with insurance markers from the Aggies. The first of three came one minute into the half when junior Gillian Baker stole the ball from a Griffin, chipped in over to graduate transfer Kailey Horton who then beats a defender and the goalie to her right, making the score 3-1. Baker was taken out in the box with 37 minutes to go and was awarded a penalty shot and made no mistake, beating the keeper high left side. The final goal came five minutes later when graduate transfer Savannah Rennix found Horton who beat multiple defenders to score her second of the game.

With the 5-1 victory, DelVal improves their overall record to 1-1-0. The squad will next play at home on Wednesday, September 6 at 7:00 p.m. as they host MAC Commonwealth opponent Stevenson University. Gwynedd Mercy falls to 1-1 and will next be in action on Tuesday, September 5 as they travel to Penn State Abington.
