Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Men’s Lacrosse Comeback Comes Up Short in 12-10 Loss to Lycoming

DOYLESTOWN (Pa.)--- The Delaware Valley men's lacrosse team trailed 9-3 late in the second quarter and stormed back in the second half to cut the deficit to one, but were unable to net the tying goal, as the Aggies fell to the visiting Lycoming Warriors 12-10 in Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom action.

Jim Murphy, who played the second half for the Aggies, made six saves in net, giving him 403 career saves, the new all-time record in DelVal men's lacrosse program history. Murphy passes Nic Brown who made 400 saves from 2017-2020.

Sean Mylod also broke the single-game ground ball record as the senior collected 18 ground balls.

The Warriors (4-7, 1-1) netted the first three goals of the game to take a 3-0 lead just over seven minutes into the game. DelVal responded late in the first quarter, scoring three straight goals with Chris Marren netting the first tally with 3:09 left in the quarter. Daniel Aulisi found the back of the net with 2:14 left and Brett Ziegler scored his first of the game just 30 seconds later to even the score at 3-3. Lycoming responded to Ziegler's goal 16 seconds later, taking a 4-3 lead into the second.

The second quarter was all Lycoming, as the visitors scored five consecutive goals, three from Owen Zimmerman, to extend their lead to 9-3 with 2:35 left in the first half. Jack Sprinkle finally put an end to the Warrior run with seven seconds left, closing the gap to 9-4 at the break.

Just over a minute into the third, Aulisi scored an unassisted goal to bring the score to 9-5. After Owen Zimmerman netted his sixth goal of the game with 9:44 left in the third, the Aggies came alive with three straight goals to trail 10-8. The first goal of the run was scored by Sean Mylod, with the second coming from Cole Graeff and the third from Tony Aguayo. Owen Zimmerman scored his seventh goal to extend the Lycoming lead to 11-8 with 4:12 left in the third, but DelVal answered with a pair of goals from Brett Ziegler and Aulisi to trail 11-10 heading into the fourth.

Both defenses locked in during the fourth quarter with the only goal coming from Joey Hoover with 1:10 left to play to give Lycoming an insurance goal to lead 12-10. With 19 seconds left, the Aggies seemed to have scored to cut the deficit to one, but after a discussion from the referees, the goal was waved off due to a flag and the Aggies were unable to score the rest of the way.

Owen Zimmerman led all scorers with seven goals for Lycoming while Joey Hoover scored three for the Warriors.

Daniel Aulisi led the Aggies with three goals and Brett Ziegler netted two. In total, seven different Aggies found the back of the net.

DelVal will return to action on Wednesday, April 12th for a MAC Freedom contest at FDU-Florham at 6 p.m.
