Men’s Lacrosse Battles Back Before Losing Heartbreaker at FDU-Florham

MADISON (Nj.)--- The Delaware Valley men's lacrosse team battled back from a 12-7 deficit late in the third quarter to even up the score at 12-12, but allowed a goal with 13 seconds left as they fell to FDU-Florham in a Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom contest on Wednesday night, 13-12.

After FDU (6-7, 2-2) scored the first goal five minutes in, the Aggies (6-7, 2-2) rattled off four consecutive goals to lead 4-1. Jack Sprinkle netted back-to-back goals to get the scoring started for DelVal and Cole Graeff and George Evanick completed the run for the Aggies. A Devil goal with 1:11 left in the first cut the deficit to 4-2 after one quarter.

Daniel Aulisi scored 53 seconds into the second quarter to extend the lead to 5-2, but from there it was all FDU for the remainder of the half, as the hosts went on a 7-1 run to lead 9-6 at the break. Lucas Berghahn scored three goals during the run and four other Devils netted a tally during the burst.

The beginning of the second half saw FDU extend their lead to 12-7 with 7:12 left in the third quarter. Chris Marren scored the lone Aggie goal during that stretch. Aulisi found the back of the net for the final goal of the quarter with 2:43 left to bring DelVal to within four at 12-8 heading into the fourth.

In the fourth, the Aggies came alive as Chris Marren scored a man-up goal just 22 seconds in to cut the FDU lead to three. Jack Sprinkle scored a few minutes later and Brett Ziegler netter a goal with 6:15 remaining to pull the score to 12-11. Aulisi scored his third goal of the game with 2:25 left, evening the score at 12-12.

With just under a minute left, DelVal committed a penalty to give FDU a man-up situation and a chance to hold for the final shot of the game. Robert Nawrocki took advantage and buried a shot to give the Devils the 13-12 victory with 13 seconds left.

Jack Sprinkle led DelVal with a career-high seven points (4G, 3A). Daniel Aulisi had five points (3G, 2A) for the Aggies and Chris Marren added two goals and an assist. Sean Mylod led DelVal with ten groundballs.

Lucas Berghahn had a team-high four goals for the Devils while Brenden Fabin added three goals.
