Cannon's Arm And Zimmerman's Bat Fuels Baseball's 5-1 Win At King's

WILKES-BARRE (Pa.) – The Delaware Valley University baseball team got back to its winning ways behind three hits from Garrett Zimmerman and six shutout innings by Derek Cannon en route to a 5-1 Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom victory at King's College on Thursday afternoon.

The Aggies improved to 14-22 overall and 8-14 in league play as they kept their playoff chances alive with two games remaining. The Monarchs fell to 16-20 overall and 6-16 in MAC Freedom games.

Cannon allowed just three hits through six innings and the DelVal offense provided him a two-run lead with runs in the third and the fourth. Zimmerman drove in one with a sacrifice fly that scored Liam Martin in the third, and Reese Hackett scored after an error in the fourth.

Zimmerman delivered again in the ninth with two-run single to center field that plated Hank Bielen and Jonathan Drews. He later came around to score on an RBI single by Nick Koch to make it 5-0. Connor Esbenshade closed the door in the ninth to secure the 5-1 win after allowing a solo homerun to Quin Acchione.

Eight different players accounted for 12 hits for DelVal, led by Zimmerman's 3-for-4 effort. Bielen and Drews each had two hits and Cannon struck out one and walked two. Colin Foley pitched two innings in relief and allowed no hits.

These two teams will finish the regular season with a doubleheader in Doylestown on Tuesday, May 2. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
