DOYLESTOWN (Pa.) – The Delaware Valley University women's lacrosse team trailed by one after the first quarter before visiting Arcadia University scored 12-straight to earn a 19-9 Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom victory.
The Knights (6-9, 3-3 MAC Freedom) got out to a 5-1 lead before the Aggies (3-10, 1-5 MAC Freedom) scored three goals in a span 3:34 to make it a 5-4 game after one. Kyra McKeegan had three points in the first quarter to lead DelVal, while Leilani Eckert scored her second goal of the season and Ashley Birmingham had two points.
The Aggies scored twice in the third and three times in the fourth for the 19-9 final. Kiara Haywood-Rivera scored twice in a span of three minutes, 10 seconds, and tacked on her third of the game late in regulation. Samantha McCurry netted her second of the season and then assisted on McKeegan second of the game and eighth of the season.
McKeegan finished with five points on two goals and three assists and Haywood-Rivera finished with three goals and six draw controls. Birmingham, who recently became the program's all-time leader in caused turnovers, added a game-high five to go with three ground balls.
Ashley Starkey led all players with eight goals and one assist for nine points. Campbell Torrey had three goals with nine draw controls.
DelVal will play its next game at home against Misericordia at 1 p.m. on Saturday. Before the game, the Aggies will honor their three seniors with a senior day ceremony.
