DOYLESTOWN (Pa.)--- The Delaware Valley University baseball team scored 11 runs over the first three innings on their way to a 15-3 win over FDU-Florham on Sunday to complete the three game sweep of the Devils.
The win moves the Aggies to 13-16 overall and 7-10 in Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom play and into the fifth and final playoff spot with seven conference games left. DelVal sits 1.5 games behind DeSales in fourth place.
Nate Rice led off the game with a double down the left field and was eventually brought home on a Jonathan Drews RBI single for the game's first run. Sean Gledhill delivered the big blow of the first inning with a two-run triple to right center to score Drews and Bobby Bright. Garrett Zimmerman capped of the four-run first with an RBI groundout, giving the Aggies a 4-0 lead after the first inning.
In the second, Drews continued to swing a hot bat as the sophomore tripled into the right field corner to score a pair of runs, extending the DelVal lead to 6-0 after two innings.
The Devils (7-23, 4-17) got on the board in the third with an unearned run, but the Aggies responded in a big way. In the bottom half of the frame, Nick Koch and Liam Martin each drove in runs with singles to make the score 8-1. Rice brought home the Aggies' ninth run with a groundout and a Bobby Bright two-run single concluded the five-run third, giving the hosts an 11-1 lead.
FDU scored a pair of runs in the top of the sixth, but in the bottom half the Aggies scored two on a two-run single by Rice. Reese Hackett had an RBI triple in the eighth and came around to score on a wild pitch for the game's final run.
Nate Rice led the DelVal offense going 3-for-4 with three RBIs, two runs scored and a double. Jonathan Drews extended his on-base streak to 28 games as the sophomore went 2-for-4 with three RBIs, a run scored and a triple. Bobby Bright went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, two runs scored a pair of walks. Nick Koch went 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored for the Aggies.
Derek Cannon picked up the win, firing 5.2 innings while allowing two earned runs on six hits and two walks while striking out three.
