Baseball Sees Lead Slip Away In 8-6 Home Loss To Rosemont

DOYLESTOWN (Pa.) – The Delaware Valley University baseball team saw a 4-0 lead slip away as visiting Rosemont College posted five runs in the sixth and earned an 8-6 non-conference victory on Tuesday afternoon.

The Aggies (9-16) scored at least one run in each of the first three innings to open up the early lead. Jonathan Drews and Hank Bielen got things started in the first with consecutive singles and first-year Nate Reed drove in the first run with a single to left. DelVal added one in the second thanks to miscues from the Ravens' defense, and Bielen and Drews scored in the third to make it 4-0 after three.

Rosemont got one back in the fifth thanks to a home run to right field by Connor Cook, but DelVal got it right back in the fifth thanks to an RBI triple from Nate Rice that plated Kenny Tunison. Rice was stranded at third to end the inning.

Aggies starting pitcher John Slover pitched five innings and allowed just the one earned run on four hits and a walk, while striking out two.

In the sixth, Rosemont capitalized on three Aggie errors and got three hits as they posted five runs to take their first lead of the game at 6-5.

The Ravens hit their second home run of the game in the seventh, this one to deep left field off the bat of Jamen Palladino.

Tunison got it back to a one-run game as he hit a lead-off double down the left field line and came around to score on a double by Jimmy Kelly. Kelly was stranded at third with two outs and DelVal went to ninth down 7-6.

A Bobby DiDonato lead-off triple in the ninth resulted in an insurance run for Rosemont and the Aggies trailed by two with one last chance to hit.

Back-to-back walks put two runners on with one out, but the Ravens solved the heart of the DelVal order to end the game and earn the 8-6 win.

Bielen and Nate Rice led the Aggies with three hits apiece and Rice had three RBI. Drews was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and Tunison had a hit and two runs scored.

Each team had 11 hits in the game and there were six total errors, four by DelVal. Cook and DiDonato combined for five this, two RBI, and three runs scored. On three of the Ravens eight runs were earned.
