MYRTLE BEACH (S.C.)--- The Delaware Valley baseball team got out to a quick 4-0 lead after two innings and took advantage of six Cyclone errors on their way to a 9-3 win over Centenary to begin their spring break trip in Myrtle Beach.
After a scoreless first inning, Kenny Tunison led off the second inning by reaching third base on an error by the second basemen that ended up all the way at the right field wall. After Jimmy Kelly and Reese Hackett followed up with back-to-back walks to loaded the bases, Garrett Zimmerman brought home Tunison with an RBI groundout. Andrew Panfile then scored Reese Hackett on a grounder to second with the throw to first getting away, bringing home Jimmy Kelly. Blake Ramos capped off the inning with an RBI single to right to score Panfile, giving the Aggies a 4-0 lead after an inning and a half.
Centenary clawed back in the third, plating three runs on four hits. Aggie starting Pitcher Derek Cannon limited the damage by picking a runner off second base in the inning, the second runner he picked off in the game.
DelVal wasted no time getting those runs back, when Hank Bielen ripped a two-run double to left field to score Sean Gledhill and Blake Ramos, giving the Aggies a 6-3 three after three and a half innings.
In the bottom of the fourth, John Slover came in to pitch with runners on first and second and one out. The sophomore got a fielder's choice groundout and fly out to right to keep the Cyclones off the board in the fourth and maintain the 6-3 lead.
Jonathan Drews tacked on a run in the sixth with an RBI fielder's choice. Gledhill and Drews each singled home a run in the seventh for the eighth and ninth runs of the game.
John Slover picked up the win in relief for the Aggies, pitching 4.2 scoreless innings in relief, allowing three hits and no walks with two strikeouts. Connor Esbenshade fired a perfect bottom of the ninth for DelVal in his first collegiate appearance.
At the plate, Blake Ramos and Hank Bielen each had a pair of hits while Bielen and Jonathan Drews each drove in two runs.
The Aggies will continue the spring break trip on Monday, March 6th at 12 p.m. against Hilbert at Ebbets Field at the Ripken Experience.
