IMMACULATA (Pa.) – The Delaware Valley University women's lacrosse team dropped a 19-11 decision on the road at Immaculata University in non-conference play on Saturday morning.
In an unusually early start time, the Aggies (2-7) surrendered the opening goal 37 seconds into regulation. A little over a minute and a half later, Susan Rawding tied the game at 1-1 with her 18th of the season.
The Mighty Macs (3-7) went on a 4-0 run over the next 6:04 of play before Ashley Birmingham and Kyra McKeegan connected for a pair of goals to make it a 5-3 game.
Before the end of the first, Jacki Murray netted her third of the game for the home team and McKeegan scored one more late in the first off a feed from Olivia Sherwood to make it 6-4 at the end of one.
Immaculata scored the first four goals of the second and DelVal answered with consecutive goals from Viola Anderson and Samantha Charles. Over the final three minutes of the half, the teams combined for four goals with the Mighty Macs outscoring the Aggies, 3-1, to take 13-7 lead into the half.
Immaculata outscored DelVal 4-1 in the third while the Aggies won the fourth 3-2. The Green and Gold scored the final three goals of the game for the 19-11 final.
Birmingham led the team with three goals and an assist for four points with eight ground balls and four caused turnovers. McKeegan and Haywood-Rivera each scored twice as did Samantha Charles who tacked on an assist for three points with three ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers.
Murray led all players in the game with eight goals and three assists for 11 points and five ground balls. Liza Laxton followed with nine points on three goals and six assists.
The Aggies will begin conference play on Wednesday, March 29th when the host King's College at 4 p.m.
