HOBOKEN (Nj.)--- Aggie senior Andrew Panfile hit two homeruns, the first two of his career, as the Delaware Valley baseball team battled Stevens Institute of Technology before falling 12-7 in Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom play.
Stevens (14-5, 5-2) got the scoring started in the bottom of the first with a two-run double and an RBI groundout to take a 3-0 lead after one inning. The score remained the same until the top of the third when the Aggies' (5-8, 0-4) bats woke up, scoring five runs in the inning. Andrew Panfile hit a two-run homerun to get DelVal on the board. After a pair of walks, Hank Bielen followed in the steps of Panfile as he lifted a three-run homerun, his third of the season and his second is as many games, giving the Aggies a 5-3 lead.
Garrett Zimmerman added on a run for the Aggies in the fourth with an RBI groundout to bring home Nate Rice, making the score 6-3. Stevens got a run back in the bottom half on a balk to make it 6-4 before an RBI groundout cut the lead to 6-5. Christian Kreiser put the Ducks in front in the bottom of the fifth with a two-run home to give the hosts a 7-6 lead.
In the top of the sixth, Andrew Panfile came to the plate and hit a solo homerun, his second of the game, evening the score at 7-7.
In the bottom of the seventh, Kreiser put Stevens ahead 8-7 with an RBI single. The Ducks added some insurance in the bottom of the eighth as Zachary Boykin hit a pinch-hit, solo homerun to make it 9-7. The hosts tacked on three more runs to finish off the scoring.
Andrew Panfile had two homeruns and three RBIs and Hank Bielen also drove in three runs with a three-run homerun. Christian Kreiser led the Ducks, going 3-for-4 with a homerun, four RBIs and a run scored.
The Aggies and Ducks will complete their three game series with a doubleheader at Delaware Valley on Sunday, March 26th starting at 12 p.m.
