Collegeville (Pa.) – The Delaware Valley University women's lacrosse team traveled to take on non-conference opponent, Ursinus College and came up on the wrong side, falling 23-3.
Ursinus (3-4) opened up the game with a 2-0 lead as two different Bears players benefited off DelVal turnovers. Maeve Leonzi quickly got Ursinus on the board just over three minutes into the game, and Grace Lynch caused a takeaway and drove in to make it a two-goal game moments later.
It didn't take long for Delaware Valley (2-4) to respond as Ashley Birmingham only needed 11 seconds to drive the field and score one of her three goals on the day with 5:14 left in the first quarter. However, the Bears went on to put up two more goals in the last 90 seconds of the quarter to take a 4-1 lead after one.
In the second quarter, the Bears scored 11 while Birmingham found the goal for the second time Charles to make it a 13-goal game at the half.
The Aggies opened the second half with Samantha Charles finding Birmingham for her third of the game and 15th of the season, before the home team tacked on eight unanswered.
Birmingham went on to lead the team with five draw controls on the day while Alyssa Rudd notched a team-high three ground balls and two caused turnovers.
Three different players registered five points for the Bears including Maeve Leonzi who had five goals and two assists for seven points to go with three ground balls and two caused turnovers.
The Aggies will look to bounce-back as they travel to Immaculata for their last non-conference game on Saturday March 25th at 10am.
