DOYLESTOWN (Pa.) – The Delaware Valley University baseball team posted a season-high 18 runs on 20 hits to roll over visiting Neumann University, 18-3, in a non-conference affair on Tuesday afternoon.
The Aggies improved to 4-7 on the year while the Knights fell to 7-7.
DelVal scored four runs in the first inning and went on to score in each of the first six frames. First-year Andrew Schneider got the scoring started for the home team with a one-out single to right field that plated Jonathan Drews. Fellow rookies Nate Rice and Liam Martin also picked RBIs in the first.
Starting pitcher Colin Foley allowed one walk in the bottom of the first, but got the next three batters out to keep it a 4-0 game after one.
Schneider delivered again in the second with another RBI single that plated Blake Ramos, and Martin drove in another in the third with a sacrifice fly to make it 6-0 after three.
Neumann got on the board in the fourth, but at the cost of an out. With runners at first and third, the Knights put on a double steal but DelVal catcher Garrett Zimmerman threw out the runner at second as the Aggies conceded the run. Later in the inning, Ethan Saxe relieved Foley with two outs and the bases loaded. Neumann plated two more on a single to left before Saxe got a strikeout to end the inning and keep it a 6-3 game.
DelVal responded in the bottom of the fourth with five runs on five hits and three Neumann errors. Drews got the rally started with a one-out double and Bielen drove him home with a single. Two batters later a Kenny Tunnison double drove in a pair and Rice brought him home with a sacrifice fly. An error and back-to-back singles from Zimmerman and Andrew Panfile resulted in the second unearned run of the inning and an 11-3 game.
The Aggies held to five hits and no runs over the final five innings while tacking on five more of their own in the fifth and two in the sixth, resulting in the 18-3 victory.
DelVal had 12 different players contribute to the 20 hits, including three-hit performances from Drews and Schneider. Schneider drove in four runs and scored three and also reached on a walk. Tunnison finished with five RBI and three runs scored on two hits. Rice finished 2-for-5 with three RBI and a run scored. Ethan Saxe earned the win with 3.1 scoreless innings pitched in relief. Foley went 3.2 frames and allowed three earned runs on three hits and four walks. First-year Connor Ebenshade finished the game on the mound and struck out two batters with two hits allowed over two innings.
The Aggies will be right back in action tomorrow with a non-conference contest against Marywood at home at 3:30 p.m.
